Taranaki Garden Festival: Plan Your Visit and Stay

Taranaki Garden Festival runs from 30 October to 8 November 2026. Plan gardens by area, leave time between visits and choose a Mellow stay as your base.

One region, two garden programmes

The Taranaki Garden Festival and Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival both run from 30 October to 8 November 2026. Choose gardens from each programme separately, then put your favourites on one route.

Start with the right programme

The main Taranaki Garden Festival programme is your starting point for its gardens and events. Use the separate Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival programme for Fringe gardens. Each organiser sets out its own entry arrangements, opening details and activities.

Mark the gardens you most want to see before choosing accommodation dates. A festival spanning several days does not mean every garden or event follows the same schedule. Put any booked session or limited opening into your itinerary first, then fit the more flexible visits around it.

Build a garden day by area

Start with the official garden maps and group your shortlist geographically. A New Plymouth day and a separate day exploring farther around Taranaki can be more enjoyable than repeatedly crossing the region. Pick a first garden, a lunch area and a final garden, then check the actual drive between them.

A flexible final stopGives you a choice if the earlier visits take longer than expected.

Share the route with everyone travelling in your car. Save the addresses before setting out and check garden access notes if someone in your party needs fewer steps or a shorter walk.

Pack for an unhurried spring visit

  • Bring comfortable shoes suitable for paths and grass, with a light rain layer.
  • Keep entry information and any event confirmations together on your phone.
  • Take water and leave time for lunch between gardens.
  • Check each garden’s visitor guidance before taking a large bag, mobility aid or picnic.
  • Keep one part of the day flexible so a favourite garden need not feel rushed.

For a change of pace between festival days, use our Pukekura Park map guide to plan a city garden walk. Our things to do in New Plymouth guide also gives you indoor alternatives for a wet afternoon.

Choose a base for your garden route

Our New Plymouth stays let you unpack once and plan different outings around the region. Sunrays Stay accommodates up to five guests; Te Henui Outlook accommodates up to six. Compare the sleeping arrangements with your group before deciding which property suits your festival break.

View Te Henui Outlook and its dates if a three-bedroom home fits your party. For time around the city as well as the gardens, compare our New Plymouth city stays.

Oakura offers a different village base for a coastal itinerary. Our Oakura accommodation guide helps you consider that setting alongside New Plymouth. Choose the base that works for the gardens on your own shortlist, then check the property’s arrival, departure and booking conditions.

Your questions

Are the main and Fringe festivals the same event?

They have separate programmes and entry arrangements. Both run from 30 October to 8 November 2026, so you can plan visits from either programme during the same stay.

Does accommodation include garden entry?

Book your Mellow accommodation and arrange garden or event entry separately through the relevant festival programme.
