Your summer dates

Festival of Lights runs at Pukekura Park from 19 December 2026 to 24 January 2027. Entry is free. The summer programme is due on 23 November.

Choose your evening from the programme

Start with the official Festival of Lights summer programme when deciding which night to visit. Check the activities and operating information for your chosen date, especially if a performance is part of your plans.

Build your stay around the evenings you can enjoy without rushing. Arriving in New Plymouth and visiting the park on the same night can work well if you leave enough time to check in, eat and organise your return. For a slower start, settle into your accommodation first and make the festival the following evening’s outing.

Plan your arrival and the way home

Pukekura Park has several entrances. Use our park map and entrance guide to find the approach that matches your evening, then follow the festival’s access guidance. A daytime park route and an event-night entrance can involve different arrangements.

  1. Choose your entrance and save it on everyone’s phone.
  2. Check transport or parking details for that evening before leaving your accommodation.
  3. Allow time between dinner and any programme item you want to see.
  4. Agree on a meeting point and a way to contact one another if your group separates.
  5. Plan the trip home as carefully as the arrival, including a pickup point if you need one.

Bring an extra layer for the return journey. Keep your accommodation address and check-in instructions handy so you can settle in easily after an evening outdoors.

Make a family evening comfortable

With children, a shorter visit that includes everyone’s favourite part is often more enjoyable than trying to see everything. Decide in advance whether you want to focus on a performance, a wander through the lights or both. Leave room to change the plan if someone gets tired.

Find the right space for your stay

Sunrays Stay welcomes up to five guests, while Te Henui Outlook offers a three-bedroom option for up to six. For a larger group, The Residence Apartment Seven in Fitzroy accommodates up to eight with three bedrooms and additional sofa-bed sleeping space.

Choose the beds your party needs, then compare the route from that property to your intended park entrance. Our accommodation near Pukekura Park guide helps you organise that decision. You can also plan daytime outings with our New Plymouth visitor guide.
